Ben D’Antonio
PhD candidate, The University of Western Australia
Ben is a PhD candidate at the University of Western Australia as part of the Australian Institute of Marine Science at UWA alliance. Ben specialises in marine predator (e.g. whales, sharks and tuna) movement and behaviour. He uses tags to understand how ocean physics drives movement patterns and identify critical habitats that should be targeted for conservation management or restoration. Prior to his PhD, Ben volunteered with NGOs throughout Indonesia and Papua New Guinea to assist in the design and configuration of community based marine protected areas, and these continue to serve the needs of local people. He also worked in the sustainability and development sector at the University of Adelaide as a communication and outreach officer.
